About Our Mission

It’s no coincidence that the word “Welcome” is permanently etched in the stained glass above our Sanctuary doors; it’s been a defining quality of Andrews UMC since the beginning. Being welcoming motivated this church to relocate from school house hill to a more convenient location on Main Street in 1920. Being welcoming also led Andrews UMC to expand its facilities for community use; first with a Fellowship Hall in 1968 and then with a Family Life Center in 2007. Our one-room church house from 1880 may not have much in common with today’s facilities, but the determination to open our doors to all is very much the same.

Another consistent part of our church identity is the word “Methodist.” As the only United Methodist congregation serving Andrews, we feel God’s call to offer the distinctives of our Wesleyan tradition to the community. Like John Wesley, who founded the Methodist movement in the 1700s, we believe deeply in God’s grace – the grace that leads us to God, the grace that forgives us our sin, and the grace that works in us until we are made perfect in love.

Learn More about the United Methodist Church

In the 1700s, a Church of England priest named John Wesley started a “Methodist” movement characterized by a belief in God’s grace at all stages and a commitment to lifelong spiritual growth embodied by small accountability groups. Andrews UMC is proud to be a part of that Wesleyan tradition.
